This customer contacted me Saturday morning in need of a Remap as the car was in limp mode due to DPF problems, these older BMW's suffer with regen problems on the DPF, usually because there is another fault within the ECU, this then kills the regen function of the DPF making it fill more and more and putting the car into limp mode (no power) the owner had been town driving this for 2 months in this state. Sure enough, a quick scan of the fault codes revealed a few issues with the car in general, one being the main fan with open circuit! A quick look around the engine bay and the cause of that issue was soon cured, the main fan having been disconnected at some point, needless to say it must have been getting rather warm with town driving all the time. So a remap and test drive later the DPF was obviously full due to the amount of black smoke it kicked out when back to fully working rev range, this eventually died away as it cleared itself, then all that was left to do was to activate a self regen and take it for a drive.
